Harry Houdini (born Erik Weisz) was a Hungarian-born American illusionist and stunt performer, born on March 24, 1874. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest magicians and escape artists of all time. Houdini started performing at a young age with his brother as part of their act, The Brothers Houdini. He later went on to perform solo acts, including the famous Milk Can Escape, Water Torture Cell Escape, and the Chinese Water Torture Cell.
Apart from his magical performances, Houdini was also known for his debunking of fraudulent spiritualists and mediums, and his efforts to expose their tricks and methods. He would pose as a believer and attend seances, only to reveal the fraudulent methods used by the spiritualists.
Houdini died on October 31, 1926, as a result of complications from peritonitis following a ruptured appendix. Despite his death, his legacy continues to influence the magic industry today.
